This article was previously published July 4, 2018, and has been updated with new information. Thousands of studies have been done on the health effects of vitamin D, and research shows it is involved in the biology of all the cells and tissues in your body, including your immune cells. Your cells actually need the active form of vitamin D to gain access to the genetic blueprints stored inside. This is one of the reasons why vitamin D has the ability to impact such a wide variety of health problems — from fetal development to cancer. Conventional Vitamin D Recommendations Are Too LowUnfortunately, despite being easy and inexpensive to address, vitamin D deficiency is an epidemic around the world. A simple mathematical error may also deter many Americans and Canadians from optimizing their vitamin D. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommends a mere 600 international units (IUs) of vitamin D per day for adults. As pointed out in a 2014 paper,1 the IOM actually underestimated the need by a factor of 10 due to a simple mathematical error, which has never been corrected. Moreover, the goal of this recommendation is merely bone health, not optimal health and chronic disease prevention. Similarly, while the American Medical Association considers 20 nanograms per milliliter (ng/mL) sufficient, a compelling body of research suggests 40 ng/mL is at the low end of sufficiency,2 with 30 ng/mL being the rock bottom for the prevention of common diseases such as heart disease,3 diabetes,4 lung disease5 and more.6,7,8 An ideal level for health and disease prevention is actually between 60 and 80 ng/mL.9 Moreover, according to a study in Anticancer Research,10 it would require 9,600 IUs of vitamin D per day to get a majority (97.5% of the population) to reach 40 ng/mL — a far cry from 600 IUs. That said, GrassrootsHealth — through its D*Action study — has found a sixfold variability in achieved serum levels,11 meaning one person taking 5,000 IUs of vitamin D per day may achieve a level of just 20 ng/mL while another is able to reach a level of 120 ng/mL taking the same amount. This is why it's so important to get your vitamin D level tested at regular intervals. According to data published in the Archives of Internal Medicine,12 75% of American adults and teens are deficient in vitamin D, based on a sufficiency level of 30 ng/mL. If the sufficiency cutoff were to be moved to 40 or 60 ng/mL, deficiency rates in the U.S. would likely be in the high 90% bracket. Even with a sufficiency level of 30 ng/mL, 97% of African-Americans and 90% of Mexican-Americans are deficient in this crucial nutrient. Most Vitamin D-Deficient People Are at Increased Risk of CancerUnfortunately, while many health professionals recommend total sun avoidance to avoid skin cancer, this strategy raises your risk of internal cancers instead — hardly a fair trade! Numerous studies have shown people with higher vitamin D levels have a far lower risk of a wide variety of internal cancers. Generally speaking, research has shown that once you reach a serum vitamin D level of 40 ng/mL, your risk for cancer diminishes by 67%, compared to having a level of 20 ng/ml or less.13,14,15,16,17,18,19 Research shows most cancers occur in people with a vitamin D blood level between 10 and 40 ng/mL, and the optimal level for cancer protection has been identified as being between 40 and 60 ng/mL.20 Vitamin D also increases your chances of surviving cancer if you do get it,21,22 and this includes melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.23 There's also evidence it can improve treatment outcomes. For example, adding vitamin D to the conventional treatment for pancreatic cancer was found to boost the effectiveness of the treatment.24 It also plays a significant part in protecting you from COVID-1925 and protects you from autoimmune diseases.26,27 Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Colorectal CancerIn a 2018 study, researchers found an inverse relationship between vitamin D and colorectal cancer,28 which in 2022 is the third leading cancer killer29 in the U.S. The vitamin D levels of 5,700 colorectal cancer patients in the U.S., Europe and Asia were compared to 7,100 cancer-free controls. Here, a vitamin D level of 12 ng/mL (30 nmol/L) or less was considered a deficiency state; 20 to 25 ng/mL (50 to 62.5 nmol/L) was considered sufficient for bone health. Far higher levels were associated with cancer protection:
Coauthor Marji L. McCullough commented on the results, saying,30 "This study adds new information that agencies can use when reviewing evidence for vitamin D guidance and suggests that the concentrations recommended for bone health may be lower than would be optimal for colorectal cancer prevention." Another study31 published in 2015 found women with vitamin D concentrations of at least 30 ng/mL had a 55% lower risk of colorectal cancer than those who had a blood level below 18 ng/mL. And, a 2019 study showed that high-dose vitamin D benefits patients with advanced metastatic colorectal cancer.32 Vitamin D Protects Against Breast CancerSeveral studies also show that higher vitamin D levels are protective against breast cancer specifically, which is a serious concern for most women. For example, in a 2005 study,33 women with vitamin D levels above 60 ng/mL had an 83% lower risk of breast cancer than those below 20 ng/mL. More recently, a pooled analysis of two randomized trials and a prospective cohort study again confirmed the link between vitamin D and breast cancer risk.34 The objective was to assess whether there are any benefits to having a vitamin D level above 40 ng/mL, as most studies do not venture into these higher levels. Indeed, mirroring the 2005 findings, women with vitamin D levels at or above 60 ng/mL had an 82% lower incidence rate of breast cancer than those with levels of 20 ng/mL or less. Pooled data was analyzed in three different ways. First, incidence rates were compared based on vitamin D levels ranging from 20 to 60 ng/mL. Next, statistical analysis using Kaplan-Meier plots were done. Third, multivariate Cox regression was used to examine the association between various vitamin D levels and breast cancer risk. According to the authors:
>>>>> Click Here <<<<< Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Lung DiseaseOther recent research35 links vitamin D deficiency to interstitial lung disease (ILD). Here, the vitamin D levels of more than 6,300 individuals of various ethnicities were assessed to evaluate the connection between vitamin D and ILD prevalence and progression. Thirty-three percent had a vitamin D level at or above 30 ng/mL; 35% had levels between 20 and 30 ng/mL and 32% were deficient, having a level at or below 20 ng/mL. According to the authors:
Even when taking other factors into account, such as age, smoking, obesity and inactivity, the results held true. Dr. Erin Michos, associate professor of medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and lead author of the study told Medical News Today:36
Vitamin D Deficiency Linked to Pregnancy LossVitamin D is perhaps particularly crucial for pregnant women, to protect both their health and the health of their babies. Interestingly, recent research37,38 suggests vitamin D plays an important role in preventing an adverse immune response against the fetus that might cause her body to reject it as foreign tissue. As noted by the authors, "It stands to reason that an immunocompetent mother would muster an immune response against the fetus. Nevertheless, in reality this does not occur due to various fetomaternal interactions which induce tolerance … Recently, it has come to light that vitamin D may play an integral part in the induction and regulation of this critical immune tolerance process." What they discovered is that recurrent pregnancy loss, which affects about 1% of couples trying to conceive, is linked to low vitamin D. In short, vitamin D promotes a favorable environment for pregnancy, in part by regulating immune cell differentiation and the excretion of inflammatory cytokines. According to the authors, "It seems that vitamin D deficiency sways the balance toward a worse outcome and may play a part in recurrent pregnancy loss." Vitamin D also performs many other important functions during pregnancy, and has been shown to dramatically lower a woman's risk for complications and premature birth. Vitamin D Significantly Lowers Risk of Preterm BirthAccording to findings by Grassrootshealth, there's a clear and definitive correlation between vitamin D levels and time of gestation — up to 40 ng/mL, where the impact plateaus.39 Overall, evidence shows pregnant women with a vitamin D level between 40 and 60 ng/mL have 46% lower preterm birth rate than the general population, while those with a vitamin D level at or above 40 ng/mL by their third trimester have a 59% lower risk for premature birth compared to those with levels below 20 ng/mL.40 Among non-Caucasian women (among whom vitamin D deficiency is far more common) the reduction in risk is even more significant. In this group, those who achieved a vitamin D level of 40 ng/mL by their second vitamin D test had a 78% lower preterm birth rate — reducing the preterm birth rate from 18% to 4%! To ignore this astounding improvement in preterm birth rate among African-American would be foolhardy in the extreme. As noted in a 2015 press release announcing the findings:41
What's more, further analysis revealed that women with a history of preterm birth can lower their risk by a whopping 80% by raising their vitamin D level above 40 ng/mL.42 Tragically, despite the overwhelming evidence43 supporting the use of vitamin D to dramatically improve pregnancy outcomes and lower preterm birth rates, health authorities still make no mention of it whatsoever. On March 27, 2018, in an effort to break the silence, the Organic & Natural Health Association submitted a health claim petition for vitamin D and preterm birth to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration,44 the key message being that vitamin D supplementation "directly impacts health outcomes and is changing the standards of care, in this case, for pregnant women and a generation of children." from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/03/08/60-ng-ml-vitamin-d-level-for-optimal-health.aspx

In September 2014, at the massive Climate March in New York City, a small but determined band of organic food, farm, natural health, and climate activists, including the leaders of the OCA and Mercola.com marched in the streets and held a press conference at the Rodale Institute in Manhattan, where we announced the formation of a new global network: Regeneration International (RI). The ambitious, stated goal of Regeneration International was to “change the global conversation” on food, farming and climate. Our strategy was (and is) to inspire and mobilize the global grassroots with the revolutionary message that the climate crisis can be solved, in fact, that global warming and its collateral damage to public health, the environment, biodiversity, and economic livelihoods, can actually be reversed through a global scaling up of organic and regenerative best practices in combination with energy conservation and a transition to renewable energy. RI’s world-changing vision, then and now, is based upon the actual best practices (and potential for expansion) of organic, biodynamic, and regenerative farmers, ranchers, land, forest, and marine stewards across the globe. The Regeneration Movement believes that a powerful combination of renewable energy and conservation, supercharged with a regenerative transformation of our food, farming, and land-use practices, is the best and actually the only way to solve our climate emergency and our related public health, environmental, and political crises. Regenerating Food and PoliticsWe believe that a global awakening and mobilization as laid out in my 2020 book, “Grassroots Rising,”1 based upon the principles and practices of regenerative food, farming and land-use, has the awesome potential to inspire and provoke a multipartisan, multinational, populist movement — Democrat, independent and Republican; liberal, radical, conservative and libertarian; rancher, farmer and indigenous; urban and rural; consumer and farmer; North and South. Once established, a new multipartisan, transnational Regeneration Movement will have the power to “make the Big Ag, Big Food, and Big Oil/Fossil Fuel polluters pay” and stimulate a massive transfer (divestment) of government and private capital away from degenerative practices (unhealthy, highly-processed food, factory farms, GMO seeds, chemical and energy-intensive agriculture, soil and environmental degradation, and rampant deforestation) to regenerative practices instead.2 Instead of destroying the Earth, undermining public health, and impoverishing rural communities with “business and politics as usual,” we must instead embark on a local-to-global transformation. We must identify best practices and move or free up the funds to scale these best practices up to critical mass. A Regeneration Revolution will require us to revitalize and recarbonize our soils and vegetation; rehydrate our deserts and semi-arid lands;3 rejuvenate our forests; nurture soil fertility; stop erosion; recharge our ground water and aquifers; restore our wildlife and pollinizer habitats; and preserve and restore our marine eco-systems. This Great Regeneration, alongside a renewable energy revolution, will restabilize the climate by reducing greenhouse gas pollution and drawing down excess CO2 (currently 419 ppm) from the atmosphere, returning this excess carbon to where it belongs, in our soils and landscapes, utilizing the miraculous power of human stewardship, animal husbandry and natural photosynthesis. This regeneration of our lands and environment, in turn, will help us restore our natural immune systems and revitalize public health (both physical and mental), bring together our fractured body politic, restore rural economic livelihoods, create jobs and reduce the economic pressures that bring about forced migration. State of the Regeneration MovementSeven years after the New York City Climate March, the Regeneration Movement has succeeded, to some extent, in changing the conversation surrounding food, farming, and climate, but we have utterly failed to build a multipartisan, multinational movement strong enough to change public policy and private investment. Atmospheric concentrations of heat-trapping CO2 reached a disturbing 397 parts per million in 2014, when RI was founded, and have since climbed to an alarming 419 ppm. Yes, it is true that regenerative agriculture is the most talked about new concept in food, farming and climate circles, but it is in danger of being watered down, dumbed down and coopted by corporate agribusiness and carbon credit profiteers and greenwashers, as evidenced most recently at COP-26, the U.N. Global Climate Summit, in Glasgow.4 Unfortunately, the “progressive,” urban-based climate action movement has apparently still not understood or fully embraced regenerative principles and practices. Climate change action leaders are still talking almost exclusively about eliminating fossil fuels in the time frame we have left to avoid catastrophe, with little mention of the Great Drawdown of regenerative farming and land use that must accompany a renewable energy revolution if we are to restore climate stability. The Death of a Regenerative ‘Green New Deal’Media coverage of regenerative food and farming, both mainstream and alternative, has certainly increased since 2014, but serious public interest in Regeneration, especially since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, has waned. Although concern over personal and societal health and nutrition has increased, as evidenced by increasing sales of organic and local food and dietary supplements, and the practice of cooking at home since the onset of COVID, the Green New Deal (GND) Resolution in Congress (with its positive advocacy of regenerative food and farming) is dead, at least for the foreseeable future. The idea of a GND has now become not much more than a limited partisan program, supported by climate activists and a minority of Democrats in the Congress. Even worse, the World Economic Forum and advocates for a Great Reset have attempted to hijack GND language and concepts as part of their technocratic and authoritarian agenda.5 Potential rural and farmer support for a regenerative GND evaporated after the Democratic Party Establishment shoved aside Bernie Sanders, the only presidential candidate in 2020 with a grasp of how a GND with an emphasis on regenerative food and farming could revitalize family farms, public health, and create rural jobs and economic prosperity. Unfortunately, Sanders, after being slandered and marginalized by the mass media and the Democratic Party establishment joined ranks with the Biden administration on pandemic policies, offering no real alternative to the Democratic Party’s panic-mongering and profiteering, despite decades of Sanders attacking Big Pharma, Wall Street, and military madness. As COVID Dwindles, Pressing Issues Are Being IgnoredThe Biden Administration has utterly destroyed its political credibility, just as the Trump administration did before them, by siding with Big Pharma, “Warp Speed gene transfer vaccines,” and Silicon Valley, failing to “stop the panic” engendered by the disinformation and censorship campaign of the Vaccine Industrial Complex, the mass media, and hyper-partisan Democrats surrounding the pandemic. Democrats (and the Republicans before them) and the White House, have basically failed to articulate the independent and nuanced science regarding the real, though relative virulence, of SARS-CoV-2, the importance of natural acquired immunity, the minimal risk for youth and healthy adults and the need for “focused protection” (vitamin D supplementation, dietary changes, and the use of preexisting low-cost generic drugs like hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin) of the most vulnerable, while avoiding lockdowns, school closures, unnecessary and destructive masking, and mandates. Both administrations ignored or down-played the lab origins of COVID-19, (although Trump at times titillated his base by using rhetoric such as the “Chinese virus,” meanwhile continuing his administration’s bi-partisan “free trade,” business as usual with the Chinese), the global cover-up of the obvious lab release and the role of U.S. and Pentagon funding and scientific collaboration. Trump and Biden both flip-flopped back and forth on the obvious Wuhan lab origins and cover-up of COVID, no doubt because they were (and are) more interested in maintaining “business as usual” in their relations with Big Pharma and China, rather than putting an end to the dangerous weaponizing of viruses and pathogens in unregulated and accident-prone labs, a mad science that continues unabated, not only in the U.S. and China, but across the world. Please sign our petition here to Stop Weaponizing Pathogens, so-called “Gain-of-Function” research. Both Trump and Biden allowed Anthony Fauci, Francis Collins, Bill Gates and Big Pharma to set policy, and rejected (Biden) or downplayed (Trump) the independent scientists and doctors advocating prevention, early treatment, healthy food, vitamin D supplementation and natural or “herd” immunity (youth, those in good health, and those previously recovered from COVID-19). Both administrations basically stood by as Fauci, Gates, media monopolies and Silicon Valley slandered and censored early treatment and/or prevention of COVID-19,6 utilizing off-patent, inexpensive generic drugs such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, and nutritional supplements. Instead, both Trump (who initially spoke out on hydroxychloroquine, but then went silent) and Biden regurgitated vaccine profiteer propaganda, claiming that “Warp Speed,” rushed-to-market, experimental “vaccines” would stop the pandemic. At the present time a critical mass of Americans, especially Democrats, still continue to be inordinately preoccupied (or brainwashed) by the misleading official narrative on Omicron, the latest, highly transmissible, but relatively harmless variant of SARS-CoV-2. Pressing issues are being ignored or downplayed, such as America’s chronic disease epidemic and deteriorating public health, massive injuries and deaths from the experimental COVID “vaccines,” the climate crisis, environmental pollution, the pending economic meltdown, threats of war against Russia, the virtual Civil War among the body politic, the shredding of the Constitution, and the fact that millions of working class, middle-class, rural, minority, and young people have been forced into poverty, psychological despair, or economic hardship by the collateral damage and bungled/authoritarian government responses to the pandemic. However, the U.S. and global media-manipulated anxiety and mass psychosis is likely to diminish significantly over the next few months as the dominant, far less virulent Omicron variant spreads across the globe and engenders large-scale natural (herd) immunity. Countries across the world are already starting to lift their pandemic restrictions and mandates and focus on other pressing issues. Hopefully we can force U.S. politicians and policy makers from local school boards all the way to the White House, to do the same. The Establishment Liberal Agenda Self-DestructsAs the Biden administration self-destructs because of its “business as usual” politics and its disastrous and authoritarian handling of the COVID crisis, the Republican Party is poised to take back control over Congress and the White House in 2022-24, as well as many local and state governments. Even though a GOP Congress will hopefully reverse the dictates of our bio-medical security state, especially as the pandemic winds down, we must keep in mind that most Republican politicians are still as routinely compromised by the fossil fuel industry, the Pentagon, Wall Street, Big Pharma, and corporate agribusiness as the Democrats. Neither party seems to be able to “connect the dots” between the climate crisis, Big Ag’s toxic food, the decline of family farms and rural communities, deforestation, a polluted environment, deteriorating public health, a chronic disease epidemic, and our continuing vulnerability to engineered pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2. Unfortunately, climate activists, such as the Sunrise Movement in the U.S. or Extinction Rebellion in the E.U., and media personalities, such as Greta Thunberg or Alexandria Cortez-Ocasio, have utterly failed to integrate regenerative food, farming, and land use into their core messaging about solving the climate crisis. As a result, the climate movement largely failed to gain rural and bipartisan (i.e., both Republican and Democratic voter) support for a Green New Deal in the crucial period of 2018 to 2020, when polls showed massive public support for a GND that could both fix the climate and rejuvenate the economy, both rural and urban. In addition, none of the leading candidates for president in 2020, except for Bernie Sanders,7 really pushed the GND, much less the regenerative component of the Green New Deal in their outreach to farmers, rural communities, and health, organic, and climate conscious consumers. Although Regeneration proponents including RI were able to successfully lobby the Sunrise Movement into including wording on regenerative farming and land use in the Green New Deal Resolution in 2019, supported by over 100 Democrats in the Congress, climate action leaders never gave regenerative agriculture the emphasis and focus it needed. Thus the bipartisan coalition that RI organized, called Farmers and Ranchers for a Green New Deal, never achieved its goal of uniting rural farmers, urban consumers, students, and climate-motivated voters into a powerful bipartisan united front. Next StepsAlthough there have been setbacks, especially on the political front, for the Regeneration Movement, we intend to push forward. In 2022 and beyond OCA, RI and our allies will continue our efforts to educate and mobilize the body politic, across party lines and the rural-urban divide, to understand the importance of moving organic and agro-ecological food and farming to its next stage, which we call regenerative organic. Beyond general education, we will also step up our efforts to locate, map,8 publicize, promote and raise funds9 for regenerative and organic best practices around the world, developing models for how to implement and scale-up best practices such as our Mexico-based agave agroforestry system for arid and semi-arid areas, rainforest restoration and agroforestry in Latin America and Asia, regenerative “tree-range” poultry and holistic grazing in North America and overseas, and ocean farming, among others. A major priority for OCA and RI will be to continue working with the Hudson Carbon Project10 to develop scientifically-verifiable data and criteria for genuine carbon sequestration (both above and below ground), ecosystem restoration, and poverty eradication for regenerative and organic farming and land-use practices. We believe this is the best way to move beyond greenwashing and bogus carbon credits and carbon trading, and to generate a critical mass of public funding and private investment that can pay millions of farmers, ranchers, and land managers across the world a fair price to scale-up regenerative and organic best practices across the globe. Stay tuned. OCA, RI, and Dr. Mercola will be talking a lot more about scaling-up organic, biodynamic and regenerative food and farming best practices in the future. from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/03/08/regeneration-2022.aspx In mid-February 2022, the U.K. started rolling out the COVID jab for children aged 5 to 11. In the U.S., the shot has been recommended for this age group since October 2021.1 The question raised in a Nick De Bois interview with Jamie Jenkins,2 former head of health and labor market analysis at the British Office for National Statistics (above), is ‘Why bother injecting kids this young?’ The risk COVID-19 presents to children is minuscule. What’s more, the British Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunization (JCVI) estimates that by the end of January 2022, 85% of children aged 5 to 11 already had natural immunity.3 Add to that the fact that the prevailing variant, Omicron, is far milder than previous strains, causing only mild cold symptoms in most people, including children. Together, these three facts ought to make it clear that children don’t need this jab. A cost-benefit analysis4 by Stephanie Seneff, Ph.D., and researcher Kathy Dopp, also shows the COVID jab actually increases children’s risk of dying from COVID infection. Children under 18 are also 51 times more likely to die from the jab than they are to die from COVID if not vaccinated. Bill Gates Saddened by Widespread Natural ImmunityBill Gates has even gone on record acknowledging that Omicron is creating widespread immunity. What’s so remarkable and revealing about his comment is the way he said it. He actually bemoaned the effectiveness of Omicron, as if it’s a horrible thing, saying:5
As noted by Jenkins, “What’s so sad about that?”6 Four Million Doses Required to Prevent a Single ICU AdmissionAn astounding statistic Jenkins does bring up is that 4 million doses must be administered to children, 5 to 11 years of age, to prevent a single ICU admission in this age group.7 Assuming two doses per child, that means 2 million children must take their chances with serious and potentially lifelong side effects to prevent a single child from requiring intensive care due to COVID-19. How is this justified? As explained in Jenkins’ website:8
Pfizer Backs Off Shots for Children Under 5While vaccine makers and health agencies have been pushing forward with COVID jabs for babies as young as 6 months, parents with children under 5 can, for now, draw a sigh of relief, as plans to roll out shots for the under-5 age group have been suspended, at least temporarily. February 11, 2022, Pfizer withdrew its U.S. Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) application for children under 5.9,10 According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Pfizer, they want to collect more data on the effects of a third dose, as two doses did not produce expected immunity in 2- to 5-year-olds.11 Three days later, former FDA Commissioner and current Pfizer board member Scott Gottlieb told CNBC12 the EUA application was pulled because COVID cases are so low among young children that the shot couldn’t be shown to provide much of a benefit. Considering you have to give the jab to some 2 million children to prevent a single ICU stay, it’s no wonder they can’t show effectiveness in studies that have just a few thousand children. Pfizer’s youth trial on 5- to 11-year-olds had just 2,268 participants, and only two-thirds of those received the real COVID jab.13 However, the OpenVAERS team suspects there may be something far more problematic behind Pfizer’s withdrawal. In a February 21, 2022, email notice to subscribers, OpenVAERS stated:
Shocking Data From Israel Show Extent of Side EffectsWhile health agencies and mainstream media still insist that side effects from the COVID jab are “rare,” real-world data show a different story. An English translation of the report can be downloaded from Galileo Is Back on Substack.14 As noted in the report:
In all, 2,894 people were contacted and 2,068 agreed to be interviewed (response rate: 71.4%). Of those 2,068 boosted individuals:
Between 6.3% and 9.3% of those with preexisting high blood pressure, lung disease, diabetes and heart disease also reported that their condition was exacerbated after the third booster. A small number of women, but no men, also reported herpes infections (0.4% for herpes simplex infections and 0.3% for herpes zoster). Other key take-home’s from this Israeli report are that:
German Health Insurance Data Show Alarming Side Effect RatesGerman health insurance data are also triggering alarms. Andreas Schöfbeck, a board member of a large insurance company called BKK ProVita, shared the data with Die Welt.15 They analyzed the medical data of 10.9 million insured individuals, looking for potential COVID jab side effects. To their horror, they found 400,000 doctors’ visits could be realistically attributed to the jab. According to Schöfbeck, extrapolated to the total population of Germany, the total number of doctors’ visits attributable to jab side effects would be 3 million. “The number that resulted from our analysis are very far away from the publicly announced numbers [by the Ministry of Health]. It would be unethical not to talk about it,” Schöfbeck told Die Welt, adding that the data are “an alarming signal.” As reported by Die Welt (translated from German):16
Autopsy Results in Teens Reveal Heart DamageGetting back to the issue of children and the danger we’re putting them in by giving them this shot, two autopsies of teenage boys who died within days of their COVID jabs revealed the shot caused their deaths. As reported by The Defender:17
Histopathological examination revealed that neither of the boys’ hearts had signs of typical myocarditis. Instead, what they found were changes consistent with catecholamine-mediated stress cardiomyopathy, also known as toxic cardiomyopathy. This is a temporary kind of heart injury that can develop in response to extreme physical, chemical or emotional stressors. Another common term for this kind of injury is “broken heart syndrome.” Hyperinflammatory states such as severe COVID-19 infection can also cause this kind of injury to the heart. More details about the medical history of each of the boys and their autopsy findings are reviewed by Pam Popper of Wellness Forum Health in the video above. Curiously, neither of the boys had any symptoms of myocarditis before they died. One had complained of a headache and upset stomach. The other had not mentioned any symptoms. As noted by The Defender:19
Myocarditis Risk in Young Men Is Not RareU.S. Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) data also raise questions about the risk of potentially lethal myocarditis, especially in boys. The following slide was presented during a June 23, 2021, meeting convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), to discuss the risk of myopericarditis.20 As you can see, the observed rates of myocarditis and/or pericarditis for several age groups, and especially among males, are significantly higher than the expected background rate. This is a loud and clear safety signal, yet the ACIP proceeded to recommend the shot to preteens and teens anyway, and in a public statement21 insisted that myopericarditis is “an extremely rare side effect” that “only an exceedingly small number of people will experience after vaccination.” How can they say that with data like this right in front of their noses? Based on this VAERS data, the rate of myocarditis is about 6.5 per 100,000 doses in 12- to 17-year-olds. Going back to where we started, 4 million doses are required to prevent a single child, 5 to 11 years of age, from being admitted to the ICU for COVID. Assuming the rate of myocarditis in 5- to 11-year-olds is identical to that of 12- to 17-year-olds, we could potentially be looking at 260 cases of myocarditis for every ICU admission for COVID that we prevent. On the whole, the COVID jab provides only risk for children under 18, so there’s absolutely no justification for it. from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/03/03/2-million-kids-jabbed-prevent-1-icu-admission.aspx Digital vaccine passports have not been issued on a federal level in the U.S., but they’re widely available, nonetheless. At least 21 states, along with the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, have rolled out digital vaccine passports, and four more states plan to release them soon.1 Advertised as a convenient way to store your health records, digital “passports” are poised to become much more than a way to display your COVID-19 shot status. Already, digital passports are being required to gain access to events and venues that were previously available to everyone, stripping privacy and freedom from those who choose not to use them. Soon, they may merge with your health, financial and digital identity so they can act as a digital passport increasingly necessary to partake in society. More Than 200 Million Americans Can Access Vaccine PassportsOne of the most prominent names in the digital vaccine passport space is SMART Health Card, a verifiable vaccine passport developed by the Vaccination Credential Initiative (VCI), which is a “global coalition of public and private stakeholders including Microsoft, Salesforce, Oracle, the Mayo Clinic and other health and tech heavyweights,” according to Forbes.2 According to VCI, they’re committed to “empowering” individuals with access to a “trustworthy and verifiable copy of their vaccination records in digital or paper form using open, interoperable standards … Individuals can then use those verifiable credentials for medical purposes and to demonstrate their health status to safely return to work, school, travel and life.”3 More than a dozen nations already use VCI’s SMART Health Cards, including:4
SMART Health Cards, which can be paper or digital, can be obtained from pharmacies, doctor’s offices, state immunization registries and any other organization that has your shot records and other health information. It can be stored as a digital file on your phone or computer, allowing you to easily present it, in the form of a QR code. “For example, you might share it to show your vaccine status for school registration or travel,” the SMART Health Card website notes,5 adding that you may also be asked to present your vaccine passport at your workplace. They also stated, “In the future, you may be able to use your SMART Health Card to share and store other health information.”6 Sights Set on International DevelopmentAlready, more than 200 million Americans can access a digital vaccine passport. Dr. Brian Anderson, co-founder of the VCI, told Forbes, “We're not going to have all 50 states leveraging this approach. But the vast majority of the vaccinated individuals in the US — over 200 million of them — already have the ability right now to go and get one of these credentials.”7 This includes people who received COVID-19 shots at dozens of locations that are part of the retail pharmacy program, such as Costco, Rite-Aid, CVS, Walmart, Kroger, Walgreens and more. Further, as Forbes reported:8
Ultimately, the goal is for vaccine passports to be used worldwide, presenting a formidable tool for technocratic control. According to Anderson, it’s not enough that COVID-19 is waning — vaccine passports, he believes, should be here to stay in order for people to travel and work freely:9
Digital IDs Can Be Tied to Law Enforcement, Retail and MoreRight now, vaccine passports are highlighting access to one facet of your health records — COVID-19 shots — but they’re unlikely to stay that way. Disguised as a tool for convenience and safety, digitized ids, such as mobile driver’s licenses, are coming and will be embedded into everyday life and used to control everything from food and sustainability to travel and mobility. GET Group North America is among those working fervently to create “secure ID credentials,”10 which includes the release of an international standard for mobile driver’s licenses and mobile IDs (mID). The standards were approved August 18, 2021, for publication, clearing the way for “global ID and Driver’s License Issuers to confidently deploy mDL [mobile driver’s license] solutions, and for Verifiers around the world to implement or adopt mDL readers.”11 GET’s Mobile ID also intends to go far beyond a typical driver’s license to act as a digital identity that will tie in to retail, health care, law enforcement and travel sectors. The pandemic accelerated what was previously a gradual transition to digital, using the public health dogma that it would be better to not pass physical documents and IDs back and forth. mDLs and mIDs are also intended to provide a streamlined identification verification system that can be used globally, doing away with different IDs for individual states. “[E]lectronic authentication can give the mDL verifier confidence in the presented ID without requiring specialized knowledge of the hundreds of card design and security features applicable to the driver’s licenses (and their variants) that are issued by 56 states and territories,” the Secure Technology Alliance wrote.12 Ultimately, the IDs will also morph into vaccine passports, so that one digital ID will create a digital trail of your every move. Some have speculated that the introduction of digital IDs and vaccine passports in the U.S. is laying the infrastructure for a social credit system. China’s social credit system, a massive undertaking of government surveillance that aims to combine 600 million surveillance cameras — about one for every two citizens — with facial recognition technology, has the reported goal of being able to identify anyone, anywhere, within three seconds.13 As investigative journalist Corey Lynn put it:14
How Digital Passports Could Affect Your FinancesGlobally, a unified front is emerging to put systems, including ever-expanding plans for digital currency, vaccine passports and digital IDs, into place for control and power,15 like the ability to track — and tax — everything you do. If you buy the “wrong” products or foods, you could be penalized by being heavily taxed, for instance, and there’s no limit to how high the tax could go or what products or activities could be affected. “It’s a total enslavement system,” former BlackRock portfolio manager Edward Dowd explained. “And then they can cut off your digital currency if you behave badly, like they do in China … digital currency and social credit will be tied. If you’re a ‘bad citizen,’ they turn it off and you disappear.”16 In the documentary “Cash or Card — Will COVID-19 Kill Cash?”17 producer Kersten Schüssler also asked some important questions, like what’s at stake if society truly goes cashless? The answer is both your privacy and your freedom. The World Economic Forum (WEF), for instance, has been vocal about its agenda of moving away from cash and to a digital currency, including in the U.S., for years.18 But the pandemic led to a drastic acceleration. In Germany, where people have been famously reluctant to embrace payment by card or app, the number of people paying by card increased by 26% since the start of the pandemic.19 But keep in mind, the digital footprints or financial data trails that you leave every time you pay by card or mobile app are being watched closely. Information like how much alcohol you drink or how much you spend on vacation can all be tracked and “sold to the highest bidder.” We’re at a point where once fledgling startups have morphed into immense information empires, in control of our information and our privacy is in their hands. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it clear how valuable digital technologies are in acting as a safety net to allow many activities to continue, but because governments haven’t dealt with fundamental issues to protect privacy and digital rights, these information empires continue to own and operate the Internet and global means of communication. These monopolies lead to uncontrolled power that, in turn, leads people to be even more constrained where they are living in a society based increasingly on surveillance, with digital payments and further surveillance as a necessary part of this plan. Eventually, your entire financial life may also be tied to your digital ID or passport. In a figure that describes digital identity systems in our everyday lives, WEF envisions that digital IDs, i.e., vaccine passports, will encompass:20
22 Ways to Stop Vaccine PassportsAvoiding vaccine passports and digital IDs of any kind is an important step to stopping the advancement of global totalitarian control. How can they be stopped? Journalist Lynn highlighted 22 steps you can use to opt out of the madness and protect your privacy and freedom:21
from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/03/07/digital-vaccine-passport.aspx This article was previously published April 24, 2018, and has been updated with new information. Do you buy farmed salmon in the belief that it's the environmentally responsible thing to do? Think again. Fish farms are the water-based equivalents of land-based concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs), and as such they create the same, if not worse, environmental concerns. Since the salmon pens are placed along wild salmon runs, they pose a severe threat to wild salmon stocks that pass by, exposing wild fish to diseases such as sea lice, pancreas disease,1 infectious salmon anemia virus and piscine reovirus. For a quick review, see "Racing a Virus"2 above — a video created by Alexandra Morton, a Canadian marine biologist who has spent decades studying the impact of salmon farming on wild salmon. Piscine reovirus is a highly contagious blood virus that causes heart disease in the affected fish. The virus was first discovered in Norwegian salmon farms and has proven to be nearly impossible to eradicate. And, with the spread of this disease into wild populations, wild salmon may soon go extinct. Toxins Abound in Farmed SalmonImportantly, farmed salmon also poses health risks to those who eat them. In fact, toxicology testing reveals farmed salmon is one of the most toxic foods in the world — more than five times more toxic than any other food tested.3 A global assessment of farmed salmon published in the January 2004 issue of Science4 found no less than 13 persistent organic pollutants in the fish, including PCBs and dioxins. Other investigations5 reveal PCB concentrations in farmed salmon are, on average, eight times higher than in wild salmon. According to the authors, "Risk analysis indicates that consumption of farmed Atlantic salmon may pose health risks that detract from the beneficial effects of fish consumption." Another group of scientists concluded that6 "Consumption of farmed salmon at relatively low frequencies results in elevated exposure to dioxins and dioxin-like compounds with commensurate elevation in estimates of health risk." Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) are also a concern because, according to Cleveland Clinic,7 "levels of PCB (polychlorinated biphenyl, which is one type of POP) are 16 times higher in farmed fish than in wild fish." Other contaminants, such as antibiotics, are at such high levels that the clinic advises children, women of child-bearing age and women who are pregnant not to eat farmed salmon at all. Farmed Salmon Contain Harmful FatsOne of the reasons why farmed salmon contains much higher levels of toxins than wild is because the feed they're given is highly contaminated. In 2017 Responsible Seafood wrote:8
Another reason for the higher toxin content is because farmed salmon contains far higher levels of fat, which binds to and accumulates these toxins. According to Cleveland Clinic:9
The exaggerated fat content in farmed salmon is a direct result of the processed high-fat feed that farmed salmon are given, which includes species-inappropriate ingredients such as poultry meal, fish meal, poultry fat, fish oil, whole wheat, soybean meal, corn gluten meal, feather meal and rapeseed oil. In essence, the salmon are being fed a processed junk food diet high in toxic contaminants and drugs, and their nutritional composition reflects this. Their diet also results in radically skewed ratios of omega-3 to omega-6 fats. Interestingly, industry leaders are beginning to see the light and they know this is not sustainable for good health. According to Responsible Seafood:10
What's concerning is that the main oil they use — soybean — has an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio as high as 8-to-1! When Purdue University scientists looked at the fatty acid profiles of 76 different fish, they found that the omega-6 fatty acid content "ranged from 11 mg/100 grams in Alaska pollock to 2,530 mg/100 grams in Atlantic salmon." This lopsided ratio can have negative health ramifications since most people are deficient in omega-3 while already getting far more omega-6 than they need thanks to processed foods, which tend to be high in damaged omega-6 fats. The imbalance also triggers inflammation in your body, according to researchers at Deakin University in Burwood, Australia, who said:
The bottom line is, rather than being a wonderful source of healthy omega-3s, farmed salmon contains far more omega-6 than omega-3. Chemical Added to Salmon Feed Has Questionable Safety ProfileA chemical of particular concern found in farmed salmon (but not in wild) is ethoxyquin,11 developed by Monsanto in the 1950s. This chemical is a rubber stabilizer (used in the production of tires), pesticide, preservative and antioxidant all in one. While it doesn't have the health benefits normally associated with dietary antioxidants, it does prevent oxidation of fats, which is why it's used in different types of animal feed, including fish feed and pet food.12 As explained by Nutraceutical Business Review:13
Ethoxyquin Health EffectsIn human food production, ethoxyquin is used post-harvest to prevent scald (browning) in pears and apples, and as a color preservative for chili powder, paprika and ground chili powder.14,15 Side effects from direct exposure to this chemical include skin and eye irritation, allergic reactions, depression, reproductive effects, liver and kidney damage, and thyroid problems, and it's known to be "harmful if swallowed."16 Studies have also shown it adversely affects cell metabolism, especially the metabolic pathways of renal and hepatic cells in rats, and the mitochondria in bovine hearts and kidneys. As noted in one review, "The authors suggested that [ethoxyquin] interacted with site I of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, and it resulted in inhibition of oxygen consumption in the mitochondria of kidney and liver cells when glucose was a respiratory substrate. The effect was dose dependent."17 According to Chemical News, "While ethoxyquin has not been tested for its carcinogenic potential, a closely related chemical, 1,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline, showed some evidence of carcinogenic activity in rats. The only suggestion of a potential carcinogenic effect for ethoxyquin came from a Manson et al. (1987) study."18 What Chemical News fails to mention is that the one and only study ever done to assess ethoxyquin's effects on human health also found carcinogenic effects. This human health study was part of a thesis by Victoria Bohne, a former researcher with the Norwegian National Institute of Nutrition and Seafood Research (NIFES) in Norway, who made a number of disturbing discoveries, including the fact that ethoxyquin can cross the blood brain barrier. She was ultimately pressured to resign from NIFES after attempts were made to falsify and downplay her findings. EFSA has also pointed out that while there's not enough data to make a conclusion about ethoxyquin's safety, one of its metabolites, ethoxyquin quinone imine, is "possibly genotoxic," and the impurity p-phenetidine, produced during the manufacturing process, is suspected of being mutagenic, meaning it may damage your DNA.19 As noted in a 2013 review:20
Farmed Salmon Is a Significant Source of EthoxyquinDue to its potential toxicity, the EU has strict limits for ethoxyquin levels in fruits, nuts, vegetables and meat. However, since it was never intended for use in fish, and fish feed manufacturers never informed health authorities that they were using it, there are no limits on how much of the chemical is allowed in seafood. One 2010 study21 found that eating 300 grams of farmed salmon would contribute "at most" 15% of the acceptable daily intake (ADI) of ethoxyquin for an individual weighing 60 kilos (132 pounds), and 75% of the ADI for BHT — another toxic chemical antioxidant. However, other testing has revealed farmed fish can contain levels of ethoxyquin that are up to 20 times higher than the level allowed in fruits, vegetables and meats, so it can hardly be brushed off as insignificant. There are also lingering questions about just how much of the chemical people are getting from fish when you add in the metabolites of ethoxyquin, as researchers have found the chemical transforms once inside the animal's body. As one would expect, NIFES insists the levels of ethoxyquin found in fish feed are safe for humans.22 However, considering the lack of research, what guarantees do we have that such claims are accurate? NIFES also claims ethoxyquin is "required to be added to fish meal in order to prevent it from exploding during sea transport and storage," and inaccurately states that "Everything is toxic if it is consumed in sufficiently large amounts, which is to say that the amount of a given substance … determines whether or not it can damage our health." This is not an accurate statement of fact, as researchers have shown that even minute amounts of certain toxins can be dangerous. In some cases there's no safe level above zero. Studies23 have also demonstrated that even tiny amounts of chemicals, when combined with others, can have significant effects. Even nontoxic chemicals can become carcinogenic at low doses when combined with other chemicals. As noted in one 2015 study,24 "Our analysis suggests that the cumulative effects of individual (noncarcinogenic) chemicals acting on different pathways, and a variety of related systems, organs, tissues and cells could plausibly conspire to produce carcinogenic synergies." Norwegian Fishery Minister Has Financial Ties to IndustryAccording to Kurt Oddekalv, a Norwegian environmental activist who has brought a lot of attention to the harmful impacts of fish farming, one of the reasons research into the health effects of ethoxyquine is so hard to come by is because it was purposely stifled by the former Norwegian minister of fisheries and coastal affairs, Lisbeth Berg-Hansen,25 a major shareholder in a commercial salmon farm and deputy chair of the board of the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research. In 2009, the Norwegian environmental group Green Warriors of Norway filed charges against Berg-Hansen, claiming her financial conflicts of interest had led her to violate regulations she was supposed to enforce. A 2013 French documentary claimed she was single-handedly responsible for lowering the legal limits of toxins allowed in Norwegian fish. In the documentary, "Poisonous Fish: The Big Health Lie," Oddekalv also told the filmmakers:26
Ethoxyquin May Pose Greater Risks Than ImaginedA recent article in the Norwegian newspaper Morgenbladet,27 also addresses the conflicts of interest that has kept ethoxyquin in the salmon industry and highlights Bohne's and others' findings:
When Boycotting Factory Farmed Food, Remember the FishFactory farming has not only become a source of tremendous pollution but it's also creating food that is unsafe for consumption in the long term. This includes fish farms, which are the CAFOs of the sea. So, when you shop for healthy food for your family, remember to look for wild-caught seafood and shun farmed varieties. At present, more than half of all fish consumed in the U.S. is farmed, and it's only customer demand that allows this destructive industry to flourish — which it does at the expense of your health. As noted by Organic Consumers:28
from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/03/07/contaminated-farmed-salmon.aspx Dr. Frank Shallenberger, author of “Bursting With Energy: The Breakthrough Method to Renew Youthful Energy and Restore Health,” has been a natural medicine physician for nearly five decades. He’s a true pioneer in the field and, as most good natural medicine physicians, a perpetual student. He was actually the first to innovate the use of nebulized hydrogen peroxide, which has become my favorite intervention for upper respiratory infections, including SARS-CoV-2. Sadly, it's been widely disparaged, but those that have used it are typically really impressed by the results. In this interview, we’ll review a number of strategies you can use to optimize your mitochondrial health and function. After graduating from medical school, Shallenberger first went into trauma medicine. After about seven years, he transitioned into being a general practitioner and internist. Within months, however, he realized that nobody was getting well. In fact, many were getting sicker from the drugs he prescribed. As it happened, Linus Pauling had a once-a-month study group in the area, which Shallenberger was able to join. He quickly realized there are far better ways to treat disease. The Importance of Mitochondrial OptimizationOne of the things Shallenberger has pioneered is bio energy testing that measures mitochondrial function. As you age, your mitochondrial function typically decreases, and this is a hallmark of both the aging process itself as well as most chronic disease. He decided he wanted a way to test mitochondrial status, and by 2004 he had developed a system that evaluates how much oxygen you consume and, in real time, how much carbon dioxide (CO2) you produce. This can give you a quantitative measure of how well your mitochondria are working. What he found was that even asymptomatic people in their 30s were having significantly decreased mitochondrial function. He calls this “early onset mitochondrial dysfunction,” and it’s indicative of future health problems, even if everything seems good and well right now.
B Vitamins Needed for Optimal Mitochondrial FunctionSo, what are some of the most effective interventions Shallenberger has found for optimizing mitochondrial function? After a lot of testing and experimenting, the only two substances found to really move the needle were B vitamins and ozone treatment. He explains:
Typically, when a deficiency of B vitamins is the cause of decreased mitochondrial function, I will see improved readings within two to three weeks, although the level of improvement can vary tremendously from one person to the next. An important caveat here is that mitochondria are vulnerable to any number of assaults, including emotional stress.
Ozone TherapyThe other intervention Shallenberger found for mitochondria optimization is ozone therapy. He explains:
It is important that the ozone used intravenously be free of contaminants, so you need to use a machine that converts pure medical grade oxygen to generate pure ozone. Ozone generators that convert air from an oxygen concentrator are only good for certain topical applications, not for intravenous injection. Also, while the peroxides are ROS, in this case, that’s what you want. You do not want to try to counteract the oxidative stress with antioxidants before the treatment, and here’s why:
Lifestyle Strategies to Improve Mitochondrial FunctionCertain lifestyle strategies will also improve mitochondrial function, the top two being interval exercise and a ketogenic diet (high in healthy fats and low in refined carbs, provided that’s optimal for you. For additional details, see section below). Lowering your stress and detoxing heavy metals are two others. With regard to exercise, Shallenberger says:
The Case for Bioidentical HormonesYour thyroid may also need to be addressed if your mitochondrial function is impaired. The key here is using bioidentical hormones, which unfortunately is getting more difficult to get a hold of. Bioidentical thyroid hormones are basically made from desiccated animal thyroid and therefore contain all four of the natural thyroid hormones: T1, T2, T3 and T4. Conventional doctors typically use Synthroid or Levo-Thyroid, which only contains synthetic T4. Ideally, you want all four of them, but at bare minimum, you want T3 and T4.
Thyroid Tests Are Unreliable for DiagnosisUnfortunately, many of the thyroid blood tests aren’t particularly good. TSH is particularly useless, according to Shallenberger. He’s convinced that measuring resting metabolic rate and increasing the dose of bioidentical thyroid hormone until you’re at an optimal or near-optimal metabolic resting rate is a far better way to gauge how much thyroid medication you need. For general reference, the most commonly used dose is between 1 grain (60 mg) and 1.5 grains (90 mg).
The Importance of Being Metabolically FlexibleAbout 90% of the population are metabolically inflexible, and that will have a tremendous impact on their mitochondrial function. Most eat far too many refined carbs and have an impaired ability to use fat as their primary fuel. To address that, you typically need to significantly reduce your carb intake and increase healthy fats. This is not a 100% absolute certainty, however. The mitochondrial machinery in some people is preferentially adapted to carbs and they won’t do well on a high-fat, low-carb diet. The good news is you can actually measure how well your mitochondria are working on a specific diet, using Shallenberger’s test. This way, you can really get a clear idea of what your personalized ideal diet is. Shallenberger explains:
Nebulized Hydrogen PeroxideAs mentioned, Shallenberger was way ahead of everyone else with the use of nebulized hydrogen peroxide. Anytime you inhale something, it enters your bloodstream. Shallenberger had been using intravenous hydrogen peroxide for about 20 years when he suddenly had the idea to inhale it. Respiratory viruses, of course, tend to hang out in the sinuses, respiratory tract and lungs. Hydrogen peroxide, meanwhile is known to kill most known viruses on contact. “It's pretty simple, but it's unbelievably effective,” he says. All you need is:
Simply dilute the peroxide by mixing 7 teaspoons saline with one-fourth teaspoon of peroxide. This gives you a 0.1% solution, which is perfectly safe to inhale. If you like, you can add one drop of Lugol’s iodine into the cup along with the solution. Heavy Metal DetoxHeavy metal toxicity is another problem that can take a toll on your mitochondria. To address heavy metals, Shallenberger typically uses a combination of colonics, saunas and chelation therapy. Like me, he’s a big fan of saunas. While most use far-infrared saunas, I prefer near-infrared saunas, for several reasons. For starters, near-infrared penetrates much deeper into your tissues, releasing toxins. Importantly, 95% of melatonin is also produced in your mitochondria in response to near-infrared light. Melatonin is a very powerful antioxidant that helps mop up ROS in the mitochondria. Melatonin also helps increase glutathione, which is a major detoxification agent. For tips on how to create an EMF-free sauna, listen to our interview, as we go into more details than what I’ve summarized here. TH1 Versus TH2 ImmunityIn closing, we touch on immune function. Your immune system is divided into two “arms” or branches, the innate immune system (TH1) and the humoral immune system (TH2). If your innate immune system is not working well, you’re more prone to infection and illness. Unfortunately, vaccines of all kinds suppress TH1, pushing you toward a TH2 dominance.

Aside from Shallenberger’s clinic in Nevada, there are also testing centers1 in a dozen other states, and several other countries. from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/03/06/mitochondrial-function.aspx It's our annual Regenerative Agriculture Week again, and to give you an update, I interviewed Ronnie Cummins, co-founder and international director of the Organic Consumers Association (OCA). OCA is one of the nonprofits we donate a portion of our revenues to each year. While giving out information is important, we also want to make sure we can pave the way to make it easier for you to actually implement healthy changes such as switching to an organic diet. That's hard to do unless organic foods are readily available, and OCA is wholly dedicated to that mission. About the OCAThe OCA is actually a family of organizations that include Regeneration International, which has a research farm in Mexico. It's staffed by about 50 people, mainly agronomists and farm workers. They also have a research farm in Minnesota that operates primarily during growing season. In the winter, they grow foods in a specially designed solar powered greenhouse.
The 75-acre farm needs to collect and store about 12 million liters or 3 million gallons of water during the rainy season, which then has to last the rest of the year. Crops that work well in this semi-desert and have low water requirements include native desert plants and trees like agave and mesquite. Growing these has allowed the farm to re-green the desert landscape and produce fermented animal feed that's both inexpensive and healthy. Air Layering Project to BeginThe regenerative farm in Mexico is now gearing up for a new reforestation project. By taking a limb from a healthy mesquite tree, adding some natural hormones and wrapping the branch with a bag filled with compost, you will, after three to four months, have a small tree ready for planting as new roots grow into the compost-filled bag. At that point, you can either plant it into a container, or directly into the soil. This process is known as "air layering."
The roots of the mesquite tree can burrow hundreds of feet down in search of water, and they in turn provide nutrition for other plants. As explained by Cummins, they exchange liquid carbon from the tree for the nutrients from the soil.
Creating a Win-Win SituationWhen you hear "agave," chances are your mind goes straight to tequila. As explained by Cummins, the state of Jalisco grows 500 million blue agave plants for the tequila industry. The problem is, they're being grown as a monoculture. All preexisting vegetation is cut down to make room for the agave. They also use chemical fertilizers, typically RoundUp. Together, it degrades the landscape rather than improves it. What OCA and Regenerative International are doing is organic, regenerative and biodynamic. It preserves biodiversity and makes use of the natural potential of the plants. The big breakthrough came when a local farmer figured out that the leaves of the agave plant, which are huge biomass, can be fermented and turned into nutritious animal feed. A single agave leaf can weigh 40 to 80 pounds, and these leaves were always discarded. "For thousands of years they were considered junk," Cummins says. What they found was that you can place finely chopped leaves in a closed container and ferment them. To that, you can also add mesquite pods. Cummins has been using a mix of 80% to 90% agave leaf and 10% to 20% mesquite pods. This mix is superior to alfalfa in terms of nutrition, but costs only a third or a quarter of the price. Cows, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens and even sheepdogs, enjoy it. A big part of the cost-savings is from the reduced water consumption. Alfalfa needs about 26 times more water than agave and mesquite. Most of the animals on the farm eat the natural vegetation and get the agave mash as a supplement. However, by adding garbanzo beans — another low-water crop — you could produce a feed that the animals could live on exclusively.
Bringing the RainThe amazing thing about reforestation is that it can actually change the climate and improve rainfall. Regenerative ranchers in Northern Mexico, in the Chihuahuan Desert, who have added 1 million acres of rotational grazing, report getting 15% to 20% more rainfall than their neighbors who haven't regenerated their land.
New Market OpportunitiesCummins laid out a plan for transforming the U.S. through regenerative practices in his 2020 book, "Grassroots Rising." In the U.S., market demand is one of the primary factors driving regenerative farming and ranching. There is a bigger demand for grass fed meat and animal products now than there was 10 years ago, but it's not growing fast enough. Feed lots and factory farming still dominate, in part because that's what our government subsidizes. Changing the farming subsidies to prioritize regenerative farming would go a long way to changing the status quo. Encouraging private investors to put their money where their mouth is, is another possibility.
Reasons To Be HopefulThey're also using a blockchain accounting system to verify the calculations and make it very difficult to cheat. So, anyone who invests in a natural asset will be able to verify, several years down the road, at a very low cost, whether the asset has improved or degenerated.
The Regenerative NetworkRegenerative International, incorporated in 2014, has since built a global network of regenerative farmers and ranchers, with some 400 affiliates in 60 countries. You can find a map of these regenerative farms on RegenerationInternational.org. Much of the energy over the past seven years has been spent on educating the world about the importance of regenerative farming practices, including its ability to improve climate, preserve water and improve nutrition. Today, most people have at least heard about regenerative farming. The primary focus now is to seek out the best practices and make sure they're shared, publicized and duplicated. The fermented agave idea, for example, came from a local farmer who visited the Regeneration International farm in Mexico. He asked if they'd heard of fermenting the leaves for animal feed. He'd been doing it for 12 years, yet no one had ever heard of this strategy. As it turns out, it's a fantastic solution that solves several problems at once. There may be other solutions out there that people just don't know about, and Regeneration International aims to find them and share them, worldwide. My New Line of Certified Biodynamic ProductsMy team and I are even creating access to biodynamic practices and better food sources through Solspring®, an authentic food brand that offers Demeter Certified Biodynamic® and organic ingredients from across the globe. Not only are we making it easier for the average person to shop, cook and consume biodynamic products they can trust, we're also supporting farmers worldwide by offering a premium price for their harvests. From the U.S. to India, we strongly support their transition to biodynamic practices, and building healthier, more diverse farmlands. OCA Is Paving the WaySince its inception in 1998, OCA has worked to educate people about organic, biodynamic, regenerative food. Cummins spent a couple of decades fighting for the organic industry before that as well. They've also educated the public to realize that farming does have a big impact on the environment.
Today's your chance to help us achieve that mission. Every dollar you donate, I will match during this fundraiser. As explained by Cummins, all funds raised are used to further the mission of OCA and Regenerative International. >>>>> Donate Now <<<<<

If you're still holding out hope that science will eventually prove artificial sweeteners to be beneficial or at the very least, harmless, you're likely to be disappointed. Again and again, research shows no-calorie sweeteners such as aspartame and sucralose cause the same problems as excess sugar, and then some. According to 2018 statistics,1 nearly 40% of American adults, over 18% of teens and nearly 14% of young children were obese, not just overweight. By 2021, 42% of American adults had become obese and 35%, overweight2 — and the trend is expected to continue, as the American Obesity Association predicts 50% will be obese by 2025 and 60% by 2030. What's causing this weight gain can be attributed to a number of things but, clearly, our diets are forefront, and processed foods and sweetened beverages are driving factors. In an effort to take control of their health and lose weight, many are wisely reducing their sugar intakes. Unfortunately, many make the mistake of thinking artificially-sweetened products are a healthier alternative since they cut down your calories, but nothing could be further from the truth. Don't feel alone, though, if you deceived: The international trend of taxing sugary beverages to discourage sugar consumption has also had the unfortunate side effect of causing beverage makers to switch to artificial sweeteners rather than sugar and other calorie-rich sweeteners. Then, they advertise those artificially-sweetened products as "healthier" — which makes it even more confusing because, when it comes to health, artificial sweeteners cause just as many health problems as sugar does. What's worse is that, in their weight loss efforts, most people don't seem to be catching on that artificial sweeteners may achieve the exact opposite of what you want. In a February 2022 press release, Globe Newswire forecasted that diabetic food sales driven by the sugar-free beverage market will reach $14.66 billion by 2027.3 Artificial Sweeteners Again Linked to Obesity and DiabetesOver the years, ever-growing numbers of studies have shown artificial sweeteners raise your risk of both obesity and Type 2 diabetes — perhaps even to a greater degree than sugar does. More recently, in 2018, animal research4,5 presented at the annual Experimental Biology conference in San Diego again confirmed that artificial sweeteners raise your risk of obesity and diabetes. The study, which explored how different sweeteners affect the way food is used and stored in the body, and how they affect vascular functioning, found both sugar and artificial sweeteners result in impairments, albeit through different pathways. As noted by the authors:
Sugar Vs. Artificial Sweeteners: Differences You Need to KnowIn the study above, after being fed a diet high in either artificial sweeteners (aspartame or acesulfame potassium) or sugars (glucose or fructose) for three weeks, detrimental effects were seen in all groups. All had increased blood lipids (fats), but the artificial sweeteners also accumulated in the blood of the animals, which harmed the blood vessel lining to a greater degree. Of the two artificial sweeteners, acesulfame potassium appeared to be the worst. The results of the study — which used unbiased high-throughput metabolomics, a technique that allows you to investigate how something affects cellular metabolism — indicate that artificial sweeteners alter how your body processes fat and produces energy at the cellular level. So, while operating on completely different chemical pathways, they produce the same kinds of health consequences as sugar. As noted by lead author Brian Hoffmann, Ph.D., assistant professor in the department of biomedical engineering at the Marquette University and Medical College of Wisconsin,6 "In moderation, your body has the machinery to handle sugar; it is when the system is overloaded over a long period of time that this machinery breaks down." Artificial sweeteners, on the other hand, wear the machinery down. "Sweeteners kind of trick the body. And then when your body's not getting the energy it needs — because it does need some sugar to function properly — it potentially finds that source elsewhere," he says.7 One alternative sugar source is muscle, and indeed, evidence of protein breakdown was found in the animals' blood. Essentially, the rats were burning muscle as a source of energy when given artificial sweeteners. Hoffman also notes that this research is different from previous attempts to conclusively tie artificial sweeteners to health problems:
Artificial Sweeteners Trick Your Body Into Storing FatSimilar studies have repeated these findings. In late 2021, for example, researchers found that females who consumed artificial sweeteners felt hungrier and consumed more food than those who simply drank a sugar-sweetened beverage.8,9 What this shows is that, contrary to industry claims, research over the past 30 years has shown that artificial sweeteners stimulate appetite, increase cravings for carbs, and produce a variety of metabolic dysfunctions that promote fat storage and weight gain — often to the researchers' great surprise. Below is a sampling of other, similar, studies published through the years.
Other Ways Artificial Sweeteners Harm Your HealthArtificial sweeteners have also been linked to a number of other adverse effects. For example, the amino acids in aspartame attack your cells, even crossing the blood-brain barrier to attack your brain cells, creating toxic cellular overstimulation (excitotoxicity). Sucralose (sold under the brand name Splenda) is made with real sugar, but chemically altered to make it 600 times sweeter than sugar but with a fraction of the calories,28 has been linked to:
Artificial Sweeteners Destroy Your Gut Microbiome, and MoreAn in-depth scientific review29 of sucralose published in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health in 2013 also revealed an extensive list of safety concerns, including toxicity, DNA damage and heightened carcinogenic potential when used in cooking. It turns out that when heated, sucralose releases chloropropanols, which belong to a class of toxins known as dioxins, known to cause cancer and endocrine disruption. Importantly, this review concluded that sucralose destroys gut bacteria. In fact, animal research30 published in 2008 found it could kill as much as 50% of your microbiome, and appeared to targeted beneficial microorganisms to a greater extent than pathogenic and more detrimental bacteria. This is really important, as any time you destroy healthy intestinal bacteria you open yourself up to unfriendly microorganisms that can cause health problems. A more recent study in October 202131,32 found that three of six commonly used artificial sweeteners impair the ability of your gut's bacteria to communicate. Study authors said:
Further studies have also found that sucralose alters glucose, insulin and glucagon-like peptide-1 levels and responses,33 thereby raising your risk for diabetes. Besides worsening insulin sensitivity and promoting weight gain, aspartame and other artificial sweeteners promote other health problems associated with excessive sugar consumption, including:
How Do Processed Foods Promote Drug-Resistant Disease? In related news, researchers also found an intriguing link between processed foods and drug-resistant disease. Here, a sugar called trehalose is a preferred fuel for two of the most problematic strains of clostridium difficile (C. diff), microbes that cause severe gut infection and can lead to death. Deaths associated with this infection increased fivefold between 1999 and 2007, in part due to C. diff strains having developed resistance against antibiotics. Moreover, researchers found that more virulent strains of C. diff were outcompeting less harmful strains inside the human gut. To determine how and why, they tested more than 200 different sugars and amino acids to see whether these more virulent strains were somehow able to use some food sources more efficiently than others — and this is precisely what they found.37 As reported by The New York Times:38
For Optimal Health, Drink More Clean WaterI firmly believe ditching soda and other sweetened beverages is one of the most important steps you can take to improve your weight and health, and this includes artificially sweetened beverages as well, because they may in fact be worse for your health than regular soda. As you can see, the scientific evidence shows artificial sweeteners can stimulate your appetite, increase carb cravings, stimulate fat storage and promote weight gain just like regular soda. As noted above, diet soda is associated with a 50% increased risk of obesity while regular soda (at a rate of one can per day) is associated with a 60% increased risk. In addition to that, aspartame is associated with a long list of other harmful effects, ranging from brain damage to preterm delivery, while sucralose has been found to be particularly damaging to your intestines.39,40 Unfortunately, many are still in the dark about these health risks. Sugar also promotes unhealthy bacterial growth, and many are already deficient in healthy bacteria due to consuming too many highly processed foods. This is why I recommend eating fermented vegetables every day, or at the very least taking a high-quality probiotic. Remember, pure water is a zero-calorie drink. You cannot find a beverage that contains fewer calories. If you want some flavor, just squeeze a little bit of fresh lemon or lime into mineral water. In instances where your cooking, baking or beverage needs a little sweetener, be mindful of your choice. from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/03/06/artificial-sweeteners-obesity-diabetes.aspx Society has a dangerous addiction to plastics and your exposure now includes chewing it.1 Several of the chemicals found in the production of plastic compounds are known to act as endocrine disruptors. Phthalates are one of those types of chemicals;2 they are also found in chewing gum. During the fetal and neonatal periods,3 babies are particularly susceptible to exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals that can affect thyroid hormone, sex hormone and vitamin D levels. This in turn can trigger preterm birth, infant hypospadias, growth restriction and preeclampsia. The impact on health does not stop in infancy but continues through adulthood. The endocrine-disrupting chemicals affect your endocrine system, which is instrumental in regulating your mood, growth and development, sexual function, reproduction and metabolism. Yet these chemicals are ubiquitous, and products and components made with plastic have been integrated into nearly everyone's daily life. You can find plastic chemicals in shower curtains, storage bags and takeout containers. But did you know that they can also be found in cigarette butts, tea bags, clothing and chewing gum?4 Oceana International5 likens plastic material to a curious cat, finding places in the environment where it shouldn't fit and being able to sneak in. Plastics can be found in seawater, sea salt, shellfish, whale stomachs and your drinking water. One study6 in 2014 found 24 brands of beer all tested positive for plastic. Chewing gum has been enjoyed worldwide for roughly 6,000 years.7 The U.S. and global markets are growing. In December 2021, Research and Markets estimated the gum market in the U.S. was $29.9 billion in 2020 and projected it to grow to $38.6 billion by 2027.8 This represents a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3.7%, which is far below the estimated CAGR of 6.8% in China over the same period.9 Chewing Gum Ingredients May Surprise YouAlthough chewing gum is a popular item, according to one estimate,10 75% of people do not know there are fossil-fuel-based plastic chemicals in the product. Additionally, 32% thought the primary ingredient in gum was natural, such as animal products or gelatin. Technically speaking, gum is not consumed and yet it is still edible. One of the ingredients listed in gum is “gum base.” This is the part of the product that gives gum chewiness,11 and while the exact ingredients are often kept a trade secret, Science Focus reveals many of them contain:12
The FDA list of additives13 permitted for direct addition to food for consumption includes Section 172.615 that covers the chemicals allowed in chewing gum. These are the additives they say, “may be safely used in the manufacture of chewing gum”14 and bear the name “chewing gum base,” which:15
Many of the substances used in the past to make gum base were natural ingredients, such as chicle harvested from a tree.16 Yet, scientists sought to find a recipe that provided the same characteristics using chemicals that were easier to source. The list of ingredients the FDA allows in gum base includes the following, which are plastics, rubbers and waxes.17
For clarification, polyvinyl acetate is one of the ingredients found in PVA glue, which you may know as school glue and wood glue.18 Polyethylene is one of the most widely produced and used plastics, included in plastic wrap, grocery bags, drainage pipes and bulletproof vests.19 Sweeteners Are Also a ProblemThese chemical compounds aren’t the only problem with chewing gum. Most of the chewing gum on the market today is labeled sugar-free. Yet the gum is sweetened with artificial sweeteners to tempt your palate. Many of the ingredients in gum are potentially dangerous since they enter your body directly into your bloodstream through the wall of your mouth. This means the chemicals bypass your, digestive system that helps get rid of some of these toxins. The Oral Health Foundation20 recommends chewing sugar-free gum after each meal to help remove the acid buildup in your mouth after a meal. They recommend chewing gum any time you've eaten or had anything to drink when you're not at home to brush your teeth. That can add up to a lot of artificial sweeteners you consume each day. One of the commonly used artificial sweeteners is aspartame,21 which is metabolized as poison inside your body. During metabolism, aspartame is broken down into formaldehyde,22 which is a carcinogen and used as embalming fluid. Formaldehyde cannot be filtered through the liver and kidneys, so it's difficult for your body to remove it. Aspartame is also broken down into wood alcohol, which is another poison.23 Yet, the FDA has approved aspartame as a nutritive sweetener. In 1981, the FDA first approved it under certain conditions and expanded those in 1983 to carbonated beverages and in 1986 as a “general-purpose sweetener.”24 There are decades of science that have demonstrated the danger of consuming aspartame. One study25,26 followed 474 diet soda drinkers for nearly 10 years and found their waist size grew 70% more than those who drank non-diet soda. If the individuals drank two or more diet sodas a day, they had a 500% greater increase in waist size. Your Brain Is Not SatisfiedA similar study27 in 2015 revealed a striking dose-response relationship between diet soda consumption and increased waist circumference. Although artificial sweeteners provide a taste many times greater than sugar, it doesn't match up with the number of calories the food provides. One study28 from Yale University School of Medicine29 shows this mismatch leads to disruption in your metabolism. When the sweetness of a product matches with the calories, your brain's reward circuit is satisfied. But, when the sweet taste is not followed by the calories, your brain doesn't get the same satisfying message. This may help explain why diet foods and drinks are linked to an increase in appetite and cravings. The nonprofit consumer education group U.S. Right to Know (US RTK)30 highlights decades of science that link aspartame to serious health risks. Health risks that have been studied after exposure to aspartame include cancer,31 heart disease,32 neurotoxicity,33 dementia and stroke.34 A second artificial sweetener — Splenda (brand name for sucralose) — has also been linked to concerning health effects, such as calorie consumption, an increased risk of cancer in an animal model35 and disrupted insulin response.36 When study37 participants drank a Splenda-sweetened beverage, their insulin rose 20% higher than when they consumed only water before taking a glucose challenge test. Animal studies38 have also shown that Splenda can lead to significant alterations in the gut microbiome, including reductions in beneficial bacteria. Gum Contributes to Infertility and Plastic PollutionPlastic products and components have been integrated into most people's lives. Unfortunately, while many find them convenient, the convenience comes with a price. Not surprisingly, the plastic in your chewing gum can have a negative impact on your community. When finished chewing, many just toss the gum on the sidewalk, believing it disintegrates. However, the plastic particles are not biodegradable and when left on the sidewalk, the microplastics end up in the drains that filter into the ocean. In fact, chewing gum litter was such a problem in Singapore, that they banned chewing gum in 1992.39 The added consumption of plastic may also contribute to the dramatically falling sperm counts in human males. In 1992, Shanna Swan, Ph.D., first heard about a potential decline in fertility in humans. She is a reproductive epidemiologist and professor of environmental medicine and public health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. The study,40 published in the BMJ that year, showed evidence of a decrease in the quality of semen in the past 50 years. In the following decades, Swan's careful research showed that plastics are a smoking gun that is disrupting human development and reproduction to the point she feels we are threatened as a species. The exact class of chemicals are phthalates, which are so ubiquitous that the CDC states “phthalate exposure is widespread in the U.S. population.”41 Swan’s book “Count Down: How Our Modern World Is Threatening Sperm Counts, Altering Male and Female Reproductive Development, and Imperiling the Future of the Human Race,” is based on a 2017 study she co-wrote, which found sperm counts dropped by 59.3% from 1973 to 2011.42 Using mathematical prediction, she believes that most couples may need assisted reproduction by 204543 due to exposure to phthalates. Are We Becoming Plastic People?A study44 from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health analyzed the urine of 144 men and women residing in Norway. They found 90% of those who were tested had eight different plasticizers excreted in their urine, including phthalates. After years of exposure to drinking water and food covered in plastic, you may expect most adults would have plastic chemicals in their bodies. The chemicals are not strongly bound to the product, so they leach out with use. They then dissipate into the surrounding environment, including your drinking water and food. Even drinking a soothing cup of hot tea to boost your phytochemicals and other nutrients may include 11.6 billion microplastic pieces and 3.1 billion nanoplastics with every cup.45 The study analyzed the plastic released from tea bags while steeping hot tea. However, if you're drinking your tea with bottled water, the number of plastics you consume may be even greater. One study46 from the State University of New York tested 259 bottles47 of 11 popular bottled water brands and found on average they contained 325 pieces of microplastics per liter. The highest contaminated brands were Aqua, Bisleri, Nestle Pure Life and Epura, while the least contaminated brands included San Pellegrino, Evian and Dasani. A 2021 study48 showed there was more polyethylene terephthalate (PET) in the feces of infants than there was in adults. Disturbingly, researchers found high levels of PET in meconium samples, which is a baby's first stool. These tiny bits of plastic are everywhere. An analysis of the existing but limited literature available on the average amount of plastic ingested by humans, estimated per week the average person consumes:49
Plastic in Food or Food Made From Plastic? The primary reason why most people choose to purchase organic products instead of conventionally grown produce is to avoid pesticides and other chemicals. Yet, even organic food has a problem with plastic. It's not the plastic the produce is wrapped in, though, but the plastic mulch many organic farmers use for weed control.50 The plastic acts as a barrier to keep weeds in check. Once the growing season ends, most of it ends up in landfills, which represents a large amount of plastic waste since it's not unusual for a large farm to spread plastic over thousands of acres. If you don’t think there’s enough plastic in your food and beverages, you may be interested to know that scientists are seeking a way to make food from plastic waste. The project began with an aim on military logistics from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).51 They awarded Iowa State University and partners a $2.7 million grant to make food from plastic and paper waste products, which they intend to feed to the military. The idea was to turn waste products into food to help with short-term nourishment and improve military logistics for extended missions. The university is working on a system where plastics are converted and consumed by microorganisms, which could “go a long way toward solving looming problems of plastic disposal and ensuring a viable global food chain.”52 But there's a lesson to be learned from the fake meat industry — it may look like a hamburger, and it may taste a little bit like a hamburger, but that doesn't mean it carries the same nutritional value as beef raised in a healthy environment. In the short term, DARPA plans plastic food as a solution to a military problem, but do you think it will stop there? In addition to problems with infertility, plastic is also damaging other cells in your body. One study53 published in November 2021 suggests that past research data on plastics and human health have not been consistent for an interesting reason. Although there is emerging evidence that microplastics are toxic and increase oxidative stress and inflammation,54 other studies had not drawn an association between microplastic consumption and disease.55 However, lab data published in 2021 in the Journal of Hazardous Material56 found microplastic damaged human cells at levels relevant to the number of particles that humans ingest, and the study found that microplastics trigger cell death and allergic reactions. The difference was the microplastics used in this lab experiment. The researchers found that it was irregularly shaped microplastics that cause cell damage and not the spherical microplastics that are normally used in laboratory experiments. This suggests that past lab research using spiracle microplastics may not fully represent the damage microplastics cause in human health. from http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2022/03/05/plastic-gum.aspx |
